HOW Mine dislodged Highlanders from the summit of the Castle Lager Premier League log standings after a deserved 2-1 away against struggling Buffaloes at Sakubva Stadium yesterday.

Mernard Mupera and Benjamin Marere scored for the visitors while Moses Gutu pulled one back for Buffaloes. They have so far collected 21 points from 11 matches while Bosso have 20 points, but with a game in hand.

But it was Buffaloes who continue to sing the blues after registering their fourth consecutive defeat since they lost 5-1 against Triangle. They went on to lose 3-1 at home against Highlanders at Sakubva, before fellow uniformed side Black Rhinos edged them 1-0 in Kadoma last Saturday.

Buffaloes started the season on a good footing but the financial instability facing the team could be the major hindrance affecting the team. In yesterday’s match, How Mine could have won the match with a bigger margin, but they lacked precision in front of goal with national team striker Kudakwashe Musharu, who has eight goals in 10 matches, the major culprit.

After a goalless first half, How Mine upped their game after the restart and were duly rewarded in the 51st minute after referred Nomore Masundire awarded them a penalty after Prosper Matizanadzo had handled a Brighton Dube cross.

Veteran midfielder Mupera kept his cool to slot the ball home. And three minutes later, Marere scored from a tight angle under challenge from Matizanadzo.

Buffaloes scored through Chipinge-born defender Moses Gutu in the 67th minute who had received a cross from Roy Mwenga. Buffaloes tried to rally back into the match, but found the visitors’ defence masterminded by the experienced Gilbert Banda tough.

How Mine head coach Philani Ncube said he was happy to win at Sakubva for the first time.

“I am happy. This is the first time to win at Sakubva after playing here for about five times. In the first 20 minutes of the match they dominated us, in the last 20 minutes of the same period we dominated and we could have scored more goals,” he said.

“In the second half we changed formation and we were duly rewarded and we are now looking forward to our next matches,” he said. His counterpart Luke Masomere said the body language of his players told the whole story.

“Of course that was not a penalty. But one thing l realised after the game of Triangle; my players’ body language is cause for concern,” he said.
