The trio, consisting of Tongai Lesley Makawa aka Outspoken, Sam Monroe aka Comrade Fatso and Michael Kudakwashe is set to begin their tour with a live performance at the esteemed Awednesday Comedy Jam in Johannesburg tomorrow.

Zambezi News is a series that comically probes everyday issues ranging from politics to sport and members of the cast are known on the show respectively as Mandape Mandape, Jerome Weathers and Kudzaishe Mushayahembe.

Tomorrow the comic trio will then be filming as the Zimbabwean correspondents for the top South African humorous news show, Late Night News, which is hosted by top South African comedian Loyiso Gola.

“The cast is set to shoot the 3rd season of Zambezi News while in Johannesburg which will be featuring South African comedians like John Vlismas and Kagiso Lediga. The two comedians are no strangers to the Zimbabwean audience as they have performed in Zimbabwe,” Shoko Festival media liaison officer Tafadzwa Sharaunga said.

He said from May 30 to June 2 the trio would perform at the BushFire Festival.

Sharaunga added that the two seasons of Zambezi News had done fairly well locally and internationally following their invite to perform the Gothenburg International Book Fair, Sweden, and the Comics Choice Awards, South Africa last year.

BushFire Festival is known for attracting international artistes and this year Oliver Mtukudzi, Mookomba, Lady Smith Black Mambazo, Bongo Maffin and Uhuru among other artistes were expected to perform. Zambezi News is the brain child of Makawa and Monro and was produced by Magamba Network — one of the pioneering organisations in arts, activism and new media as well as Shoko Festival hosts.
