Unilever, through the brand Omo, last month launched the 2014 Football World Cup promotion dubbed “Wash-fly” to Brazil in Harare.

Rufo, a member of the Johanne Marange Apostolic church, said he owes his winning of the ticket to God.

Rufo, who was at the shrine praying at the time his entry form was picked, is one of the six lucky customers to win the competition.

“I am very overwhelmed by this. In fact I owe it to God. I am happy that I will be able to watch the World Cup matches in Brazil courtesy of Omo washing powder (Unilever). This will be the biggest moment of my life because I like soccer very much,” said a visibly elated Rufo.

He added: “I have always been thinking that these competitions are fake, but it has become a reality.”

Despite him being a member of the apostolic faith sect – known for their penchant of marrying many wives – Rufo has one wife. He said he would go to Brazil with his wife.

Uniliver Zimbabwe category manager Rufaro Masunda said the company launched the competition last month in Harare where customers would buy 2×500 or 1kg of Omo washing powder and complete entry forms.

“The competition is sponsored at a tune of $200 000,” said Masunda. “All the winners to Brazil will have all their expenses catered for. Each winner with a person of his choice will have their passports, visa and accommodation paid for by us. In addition, we will give the winner $800 pocket money.”

She said the competition will be carried in six major cities in Zimbabwe.  Three tickets have already been won in Harare, Bulawayo and Mutare.

Three other winners will be chosen from Gweru, Masvingo and Kwekwe. “We as Unilever, we have been part of Zimbabwe for many years and have always taken pride in making our brands part of communities we live,” said Masunda.

“Besides the World Cup Brazil tickets, a lot of customers are winning $100 cash and decoders through our road shows throughout the country,” explained Masunda.
