The teenage (17) was convicted on his own plea of guilty to three counts of theft when he appeared at the Beatrice Circuit Court.

The boy will, however, serve an effective 31 months in prison after six months were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour. Another seven months were suspended on condition that he pays $243 restitution to the complainants.

Circumstances are that on April 7, the teenage broke into Nicholas Musariri’s place of residence at Killet Farm and stole a television set, one radio speaker, DVD player, and 25 compact discs all worth $239.

Further allegations were that on May 8, he broke into Blessing Chenjerai’s house at Chidziva Estates and stole a DVD player, a Nokia 1200 cellphone, one satchel, one pair of jean trousers and a pair of short trousers all worth $71.

The court also heard that on May 11, the teenager broke into Charter Graders shop and stole $178 from the till.

The matter was reported to police, leading to the teenager’s arrest. Police investigations led to the recovery of property worth $36 at the teenage’s house.
