Dubbed Bob Marley Commemoration: Dancehall Night, the event is expected to be graced by artistes like Soul Jah Love, Killer T, Kinnah, Shinsoman, Guspy Warrior, Cello Culture, Junior Spice and Sniper Storm, among others.

Other upcoming performers such as Platinum Prince, Tocky Vibes, Jay Cee, Terminator and many more are also expected to be part of the event while dreadlocked songstress Nadine Brown and Itana are some of the female artistes in the line-up.

What perhaps remains engraved in the minds of many Marley fans is his historic visit to Zimbabwe in 1980 when he performed at Rufaro Stadium on Independence Day.

It is in this spirit that local reggae musicians at the behest of Jamaica-born Ras Jabu, real name Trevor Hall, have been holding annual events to mark the death of the reggae icon.

Furthermore, Marley’s 1980 visit to Zimbabwe indisputably paved the way for and still is the driving force that has propelled many Jamaican reggae artistes to perform in this country.

It is also perhaps not a vague coincidence that Marley’s life is being commemorated in this country at a time when dancehall, a genre that originated from the Caribbeans is at its height, complemented by an exciting host of local chanters that have taken the dancehall scene by storm.

“This is certainly one of the events that have been held consistently in the country and all over the world. Bob Marley’s life continues to inspire the lives of many people, be it in music and the arts in general,” Ras Jabu told NewsDay.

“On this night we will be giving our local artistes the platform to express a befitting honour to the great legendary icon.”
