AN abusive Mutare man, Given Mwauraeni, has been sentenced to a four-month jail term for physically assaulting his four minor children. Mwauraeni (32) of Dangamvura was last week convicted on his own plea to charges of physically assaulting his children. OBEY MANAYITI STAFF REPORTER

Circumstances into the matter were that on May 22 at around 3am, Mwauraeni arrived at his home drunk and stormed into the room where his four children aged between two and nine years were sleeping.

The court heard that he awakened them and started assaulting them using his leather belt for no apparent reason.

Irked by the move, Mwauraeni’s sister Tambudzai reported the matter at Dangamvura Police Station, leading to the latter’s arrest.

Magistrate Waini Makamera slapped him with four months in prison or alternatively $300 fine.

Asked why he physically abused the children, Mwauraeni said the minors had provoked him on the day in question, adding that they were mischievous. Nelson Makunyire prosecuted.
