PREMIERSHIP newcomers ZPC Kariba say they have completed 98% of the works in their refurbishment of their home ground — Nyamhunga — as they seek to bring it to Premier Soccer League (PSL) standards.

The newly-promoted team will face Caps United in their season opener on Sunday and will remain in the capital for their second match against defending champions Dynamos at the National Sports Stadium the following weekend.

Nyamhunga was last year condemned by the PSL/Zifa grounds committee because it did not meet their standards after ZPC Kariba won qualification into the elite league from the Northern Region.

ZPC Kariba public relations officer Fadzai Chisveto said yesterday they had been working on the stadium to meet PSL standards.

“We have been working hard to uplift Nyamhunga Stadium to PSL standards,” she said. “I am happy that we are now 98% in completing the task.

“We hope by next week we will have completed the refurbishment stadium. “We have been doing it by ourselves, with the Kariba municipality also chipping in. “They have been coming to assess the progress as well. We are very happy with the way things are progressing.”

ZPC Kariba’s participation in the elite league had been hanging in the balance as they had not paid their affiliation fees and had also not submitted player contracts to the PSL.

However, they have now been accepted as a member of the topflight league after eventually managing to meet its requirements.
