Police this afternoon charged NewsDay Editor Nevanji Madanhire and reporter Moses Matenga for allegedly publishing falsehoods prejudicial to the State following the publication of a story headlined “Chihuri, You’re Responsible.”
The story was about three-year old Neil Tanatswa Mutyora, who died after being knocked down by a commuter omnibus driver, who was allegedly fleeing from a “menacing police officer”.
According to police the journalists “published or communicated false statements prejudicial to the State with the intention to incite or promote public disorder or public violence or endangering public safety.”
Madanhire and Matenga were detained and interrogated for seven hours before being charged and released.
