UTAKATAKA Express band manager Sukosile Dube was brutally attacked by security guards manning the VIP gate at the Chipaz Promotions 10th Anniversary celebrations, dubbed the Sungura Night held at Gwanzura Stadium over the weekend.

Dube, who sustained head injuries reported the case at Machipisa Police Station and a docket with reference number RRB 2030442 was opened.

One of the guards was arrested while another was whisked away by his superiors as fans were baying for his blood.

Dube, who doubles as the sound engineer for Utakataka Express was trying to gain entry into the venue in preparation for their performance.

Despite identifying himself as Utakataka Express manager, the security guards did not allow him in, instead they felt he was being troublesome and attacked him. “I am surprised that seeking entry via the VIP section could turn that nasty,” said Dube.

“The security guards were violent even though I identified myself as Utakataka Express manager, they did not listen.”

Apart from the ugly scene, a cold spell that characterised Harare on the night appeared to have deterred revellers.

But even then the small crowd did not dampen the spirits of performers as some put up stellar performances.

Upcoming musician Nelson Director Phiri and his Orchestra Jack Stars had a good performance, wowing crowds.

Peter Moyo and his Utakataka Express also had a flawless act leaving revellers mesmerised by their well-choreographed routines.

Musicians such as Sulumani Chimbetu, Leonard Zhakata, Jacob Moyana of the Munotidako fame and Romeo Gasa, among others took part in the musical extravaganza
