THE trial of two Zimbabwean men accused of kidnapping a German investor failed to kick off at Harare Magistrates’ Court last Friday after the complainant Dietrich Herzog did not attend the hearing.

Herzog, who is the State’s key witness in the matter, was expected to lead evidence implicating Phillip Mapfiro and Ashraf Raslan of having kidnapped him for over five hours over a botched business deal. Provincial magistrate Elijah Makomo then postponed the matter to Wednesday.

The dispute between Catercraft director Kamal Khalfan and Shanfari has also spilled into the High Court where the latter has sued his counterpart for $10 million for breach of a contractual agreement involving Catercraft.

Mapfiro (30) and Raslan (39) are being represented by Jonathan Samukange, who has warned that the alleged kidnapping could expose a lot of underhand dealings by top government officials linked to Khalfan.
