Magombo, who last week attended the Africa Energy Indaba in Pretoria, South Africa, told NewsDay Business yesterday that several investors were keen on exploring the country’s renewable energy sector.

“There is a lot of interest in Zimbabwe because of the current opportunities mainly in renewable energy as currently we are the ready market,” Magombo said.

“We have exchanged contacts and emails, in the next three months they have committed to make follow-ups to meet some of the companies in Zimbabwe. Some of them have asked to have a list of licensed companies we have registered so that they can contact them and discuss to see which companies they can partner with.”

She said some of the investors wanted to supply equipment like solar PV power stations.

“Those who are looking for partners said  they will provide equipment and these people want to work with our potential independent power producers (IPPs),” she said.

“We also have people who want to provide energy solutions, providing the latest solutions which are more advanced.”

She added that Zera had held discussions with some of the potential technology providers to establish a manufacturing facility so that the country could benefit through skills transfer and employment creation.

“We have a lot of human capital in Zimbabwe, educated people who can easily learn. We need to take advantage of the human capital as it is critical in skills transfer.

The Africa Energy Indaba receives global recognition as the foremost African energy event for energy professionals from across the globe.
