Head-in-charge Philip Chikomwe said they were expecting the athletes to perform well at the national competition to come up with strong teams. “The national championships will be held in March at Peter House and on the same day we will hold the national cross country championships.

“We are expecting the athletes to do well at the nationals so that we are able to select strong teams for the international competitions,” he said.

Chikomwe said the bulk of the athletes would compete at the Cossasa Championships which will be held in Botswana sometime in May.

“The dates of most of the competitions are still to be finalised. However, we know that the bulk of the athletes that will perform well will take part at the Confederations of School Sport Association of Southern Africa championship in Botswana,” he said.

Last year Mashonaland East emerged winners beating Manicaland, Matabeleland South, Midlands and Harare in the top five respectively.

Chikomwe said they were also looking forward to the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe national championships where some of their athletes would take part.

“We have done fairly well in both local and international competitions and we are hopeful that we will do well again this year,” he said.
