The unique event will see eight local fashion designers showcasing fashion items made from litter.

Gamuchirai Danzvara, one of the organisers said the event is set to lure a number of fashion enthusiasts.

“A team of eight fashion designers have come up with 30 outfits that will be paraded by 10 models during the event and a panel of three judges will decide on the best outfit, with the designer receiving a prize that will be revealed at the event,” Danzara said.

“Zimbabwe is facing a daunting challenge of waste management at all levels of the community. The country is currently generating three million tonnes of solid waste per year with no viable large scale re-use or re-cycling strategies.

“All this mixed waste is accumulating at various dumpsites around the country over and above illegal dumpsites mushrooming in and around residential and industrial areas.

She said besides being an eyesore litter is also an extreme health hazard.

She said the event will showcase the immense talents housed in the country with local designers transforming what they see as ordinary waste into amazing fashion items.

Danzara said it will also act as a call-out to all Zimbabweans to come together and drive litter out.

The event will be an annual event to be held in a different city every year with this year’s edition being co-ordinated by Colin Ratisai
