HARARE-BASED comedian Bonface Muropa, popularly known as Mzukuru in the local comedy series, Vavakidzani, has proved to be a jack of all trades by releasing a sungura music album titled Zvakazoita.

Report by Tinashe Sibanda

The comedian, who has released the six-track offering, said despite loving his role as a comedian, he was always interested in sungura music thus it had all started out as a hobby of writing songs and performing them for audiences in Budiriro, Harare where he resides.

“I always loved the music of Alick Macheso and the late System Tazvida and I knew it was something I could do as well and in no time I began to draw the attention of many Budiriro residents as I continuously practiced with the help of my band, the Wowowo Sounds, which is comprised of mainly my family members,” Muropa said.

He said unlike a lot of people he was against those that merely cry over economic challenges, but instead create employment through the things he loved to do the most like acting and singing.

Muropa, who is a family man with four children and others from his extended family, said this helped in the sense that instead of cracking his head trying to think of how to take care of such a big family he mostly involved his family members in his productions and together they sell the DVDs in the streets which has helped him a lot.

“I am a contractor by profession so the little free time I get I use it for comedy and music together with my family members and this is never a burden to me because I simply take it as a demanding passion,” he added.

The energetic comedian said every song on his debut album had a positive message despite being continuously comical. He also said he believed he could always use comedy even in music with a meaning and message.

The album, Zvakazoita, has various tracks based on his day-to-day experiences with the world around him and these include Chimwene Chimwe, DeMbare Bhora, Sango, Ndichengeteiwo Mwari, Mwanasikana and Ndibatsireiwo.
