In a fashion that may evoke days gone by when Selmor’s father superstar Oliver Mtukudzi held shows with his late son Sam, the show is expected to be an exciting fusion of the old and the young.

Speaking to NewsDay this week Selmor said they had to organise the forthcoming show due to public demand.

“We had another show earlier which was oversubscribed and we gave in to numerous calls for another show,” Selmor said.

She said she was pleased to be sharing the stage yet again with the iconic Mbuya Chiweshe who has immeasurable experience in the music industry.

“There is a lot to expect from this show especially considering Mbuya Chiweshe’s traditional flare as compared to mine which is more of contemporary with a great deal of traditional music also,” she said.

“It is basically about bridging the generation gap and we as the young people are destined to learn a lot from the show.”

Selmor said each artiste would perform with her band, but they will later share a song together.

“One thing the artistes promise is a show filled with extraordinary dance and music, backed by their professional bands,” she said.

Contacted for comment Mbuya Chiweshe said revellers should come prepared to dance their feet sore.

She said it will also be a night when she gets to interact with the young people giving them survival tips.

“Expect singing and dance. It is time to talk to my grandchildren. What can you do when the children do not listen to you? They laugh at you,” she said.

She also said it was important for her to impart knowledge to the younger generation as it would strengthens them as a people. The two were excited to be able to hold the show and were proud of the preparations done so far which are already at an advanced stage.

Both artistes have unique skills as Selmor is an exceptional percussion player while Mbuya Chiweshe is a mbira maestro.

Combined, they produce a magnificent fusion of young and mature talent.

The concept will see each artiste perform with their band after which they will collaborate.
