The album titled Summer Is Ours is largely hip hop while featuring a few reggae tracks.

On the sidelines of the launch, Global Records chief executive officer Shingi Mugwagwa told NewsDay the album combines party songs and soft jams.

“Summer Is Ours is a fusion of party songs and soft jams that can be utilised this festive season. As you know, summer is largely associated with festivities and parties including Christmas and New Year parties so we have this to offer to all fun lovers,” he said.

Mugwagwa, also known as Gwagz in hip hop circles, said the artistes worked hard in coming up with something fresh and unique.

“I love all the songs on the album, the artistes worked really hard in coming up with fresh stuff that I believe is really good and can take Zim hip hop to a greater scale,” he said.

Local hip hop has been on the rise with the introduction of Zim Hip Hop Awards four years ago challenging other genres.

Mugwagwa said it was time for Zimbabwean artistes to start penetrating the international music scene with local music.

Summer Is Ours is a 15-track album which carries songs such as Where You At, Tipei Maoko, Love Her, King’s Feeling and the title track Summer is Ours, among others.
