The annual tournament is set to tee off at its traditional home, the Chapman Golf Club, from Thursday and will run until Saturday. The tournament has retained its 54-hole stroke play over three rounds format, as well as its prize fund of $25 000.

While regular players on the Zambezi Tour are expected to dominate the entry list, but the organisers are also expecting regional pros to feature at the tournament.

“Entries for the event are open and will close on Friday 15th November 2013. The field is expected to feature professionals from the Zambezi Tour and a few elite amateurs with a few invitations being extended to professionals from the region,” said Zimbabwe Open Golf Committee’s marketing and communications director Tendai Gwatiringa in a statement yesterday.

Gwatiringa then told NewsDay Sport that invitations have been sent out to those they want to feature, but they have not received any feedback.

However, the organisers’ efforts to bring in regional golfers are likely to be hampered as the tournament has coincided with the South African Open Championship.

Last year’s edition was won by veteran golfer Day Muyambo who beat the challenges of the likes of favourites Ryan Cairns and Tongo Charamba.
