The fair, which will run until October 20, is the first contemporary African art fair to be held in London. The 1:54 Art Fair was initiated by market developer Touria El Glaoui under the auspice of Art Africa Ltd.

It will be running along with an arts education programme curated by Koyo Kouoh, which will include lectures, film screenings and panel debates featuring leading international curators, artists and art experts.

In an interview with NewsDay, FFG marketing director Marcus Gora said they would arrive in London this coming weekend.

“We arrive in London this weekend and set up for the official opening on October 15. We are travelling with six artists namely Wycliffe Mundopa, Moffat Takadiwa, Gresham Nyaude, Terrence Musekiwa, Mavis Tauzen and Richard Butler-Bowdon,” he said.

Gora said participating artists would benefit from exposure to an international audience of art lovers, collectors, curators, writers and critics.

“This kind of interaction is set to open doors not only to financial reward but to potential future collaborations as well as publicity.

“This is also an important step for our gallery and for getting international recognition and support for our emerging artists,” he said.

1:54 Art Fair is a high quality event which will showcase a limited number of carefully selected African galleries.

Other exhibiting galleries include Galerie Mikael Andersen (artist residency in Algiers), Artco, Art Lab Africa, Jack Bell Gallery, Carpe Diem, Galleria Continua lounge Museum of Modern Art, Equatorial Guinea and Galerie Cecile Fakhoury among others.
