Tuku pulls out of United Kingdom tour

SUPERSTAR Oliver Mtukudzi will no longer be part of the Greatest Hits Tour slated for the United Kingdom next weekend.

Show organisers Y2K Promotions said they were disappointed to be notified that Tuku would not make it as initially scheduled.
“It is with such disappointment that Oliver Mtukudzi and The Black Spirits will no longer be coming for this tour from October 25- 26, 2013,” Y2K said.

Tuku’s manager Sam Mataure said: “Due to unforeseen reasons, Oliver Mtukudzi and The Black Spirits will not be touring in UK for The Greatest Hits Tour.

“We would like to reassure all Tuku fans that this has nothing to do with Y2K Promotions and we have therefore, rescheduled the tour for next year from March 21 to 22 (2014) with them.

“We hereby give our sincere apology, but we still urge people to attend the gigs as arranged and give support to Jah Prayzah and Sulumani Chimbetu (who are also part of the tour).”

Y2K culture director Alex Mharapara said they are aware that Tuku’s UK tour record is impeccable and untarnished and for him to reschedule at such short notice he must have very important engagements.

NewsDay is reliably informed that Tuku cancelled the trip because a university in Masvingo will confer the musician with an honorary degree next week.

Tuku has apparently decided not to miss the event.

A show featuring Tuku and Alick Macheso, which could be a celebratory event, has been planned for Mucheke Stadium in Masvingo on October 25.

“The Tuku camp is still mum on the developments, but they received information on the issuing of an honorary degree from Great Zimbabwe University hence they had to cancel the United Kingdom tour,” said our source.
