THE Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) will next week host the Zimbabwe Namibia business forum

THE Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) will next week host the Zimbabwe Namibia business forum which is expected to foster trade and investment promotion activities between the two countries. Report by Business Reporter

The business forum is expected to take place from October 21 to 24 in Harare. Industry and Commerce minister Mike Bimha is expected to deliver the keynote address.

Namibian ambassador to Zimbabwe and officials from the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI), Zimbabwe Investment Authority and ZNCC will make presentations.

ZNCC deputy president Davison Norupiri said the NCCI will lead a business delegation to Zimbabwe of up to 20 representatives from 15 companies from different sectors.

Norupiri said Namibian companies have expressed interest in tourism, farming, aquaculture, food processing, mining, manufacturing and brick plants export market for cement, crocodile farming, transport and logistics, investments, import and export, construction and retail among others.

He said the Namibian delegation will arrive on October 20.

“We undertook a trip to Namibia for us to understand how their business operate and this is a return trip to Zimbabwe,” Norupiri said.

Norupiri said Namibians had shown interest in the Zimbabwean companies and encouraged Zimbabweans to use the Namibian port as it was currently being underutilised. “In Namibia they do not have vegetables and they do a lot of canning, so they are encouraging Zimbabweans to do a lot of exports of tomatoes,” Norupiri said.

He said the business forum will encourage business-to-business meetings with Zimbabwe and the Namibian companies to venture into partnerships.

Norupiri said during the five- day visit by the Namibians, there would be site visits, particularly to small and medium enterprises (SME), development centres, manufacturing factories, agricultural machinery suppliers and training centers.

“They have shown interest in aquacultural projects in Kariba and they will visit the lake Harvest Aquaculture project in Kariba,” he said. He said Zimbabwe and Namibia have drafted a memorandum of understanding on trade promotion which would likely be signed soon.
