Manicaland police spokesperson Inspector Enock Chishiri confirmed the arrest of 38-year-old Maggie Muyambo for attempted murder.

Chishiri said Muyambo lost her temper after her former son-in-law Elias Mafukidze (30) allegedly kept nagging her demanding custody of his minor daughter, and in a fit of rage she struck him with a machete. The incident allegedly happened on June 23 under Chief Mutema’s area in Chipinge.

Mafukidze is recuperating at Chipinge District Hospital while Muyambo is in police custody and is expected to appear in court soon.

According to police, Muyambo went into a fury after Mafukidze demanded custody of his daughter. She allegedly accused her former son-in-law of being incapable of taking care of the minor before their discussion degenerated into a heated argument.

In a fit of rage, Muyambo allegedly struck him with an empty beer bottle and later picked up a machete with which she struck Mafukidze six times in the head.

According to Chishiri, Mafukidze sustained deep cuts in the head and later fell unconscious.

Neighbours later rushed to the scene and reported the matter to the police.
