Highlanders have dominated most of the encounters against the Harare giants — registering back-to-back-wins last season.

In the first meeting Highlanders emerged 1-0 victors before defeating their opponents 2-0 in the other fixture at Rufaro Stadium.

And Caps United, who have collected points in their last three matches, will be out to banish those sad memories and gain ground on the league pacesetters as they seek to win the championship the last won under Charles Mhlauri back in 2005. After a comfortable 2-0 win over Hwange on Wednesday at the same venue, United are in high spirits ahead of this encounter.

Taurai Mangwiro’s men are expected to mount a serious challenge on the championship after a disappointing season last term when they finished a distant 10th on the league table.

With Highlanders licking their wounds following a 1-0 defeat against Chicken Inn in a city derby on Wednesday, the Bulawayo giants will be out to atone for that setback to maintain their lead at the top of the league table.

Highlanders lead the pack with 29 points with Chicken Inn on second position with 26 points while Dynamos and Harare City are third and fourth although both teams have 25 points.

Caps are sixth with 23 points and are aware that a victory over Highlanders will boost their confidence in their title chase.

Mangwiro admits it would be difficult playing the log leaders.

“It’s always difficult to play against the log leaders,” said Mangwiro. “It will be a difficult match, but our victory over Hwange has motivated us ahead of this match. We needed to do well against Hwange, before facing Highlanders and I am sure that this win can serve us well before the next fixture,” Mangwiro said.

“We were working very hard during the break and that was a very crucial period as it gave us time to look at the pool of players that we have,” Mangwiro added.
