HOUSING and Social Amenities minister Giles Mutsekwa was yesterday summoned by police in Mutare in connection with an assault case that happened last Thursday.

Report by Obey Manayiti

Police recorded a cautioned statement from Mutsekwa in relation to a case of assault pitting members of the MDC-T that led to the arrest of the minister’s organising secretary in Chikanga, Dangamvura constituency, Kingstone Mutandi.

Mutsekwa’s lawyer Chris Ndlovu confirmed to NewsDay that police summoned his client, but said it was a follow up to the assault matter to clarify certain issues.

Ndlovu said although Mutandi arrived at the scene in the minister’s vehicle, Mutsekwa was not anywhere near the scene on the day in question.

“One of his guys in the structures had a problem with a local councillor. Police wanted to clarify the role of the minister in that case because Mutandi arrived at the scene in Mutsekwa’s vehicle,” Ndlovu said.
