FC PLATINUM yesterday appointed national team assistant coach Lloyd “Samaita” Mutasa to the position of acting head coach at the club. HENRY MHARA Mutasa’s appointment was announced by club president George Mawere and he takes over from Zambian Tennant Chilumba, who left the club last week to join Power Dynamos of Zambia.

Mutasa is only awaiting approval from his employers, Zimbabwe Prison Services, before he can assume one of the toughest jobs in the land.

Besides the head coach duties, Mutasa will lead the team’s junior structures.

“In line with its quest to enhance excellence at its soccer academy based at Guinea Fowl in Gweru and Under-19 team currently in Division One, FC Platinum Football Club have appointed Lloyd Mutasa as its talent development coach.

“Over and above his role, Mutasa will also work as acting head coach of FC Platinum until the end of year (2013). He will be assisted in that role by Tendai Chikuni as his first assistant,” the statement by Mawere read.

“FC Platinum wishes Lloyd success in this new role and we look forward to work with him to ensure that the club develops grassroots talent and remains a competitive top flight Premier League club in Zimbabwe. We believe Mutasa has the pedigree to shape our development structures in line with our vision of being a key feeder of talent into various national teams,” added Mawere.

Tendai Chikuni, who took charge of the team’s 0-0 draw against Motor Action on Wednesday in Harare, will be in charge of this afternoon’s match against Black Rhinos at Mandava Stadium which ended goalless.

Samaita would be looking to rescue the team from dropping further down the log table as they currently lie on fifth position, six points behind log leaders Highlanders.
