The meeting between the two teams comes two weeks after their hugely controversial league encounter at Sakubva with 10-man Buffaloes overcoming the champions 3-2.

The home team felt Mutare referee Langton Chitsa, who called the shots on the day, was biased against them after awarding the champions two penalties and also red carding one of their star players — Themba Ndlovu in the first half of the match.

But still, this could not stop Buffaloes from writing a glorious piece of history for themselves as they became the first team to beat Dynamos this season.

Kalisto Pasuwa’s men had not lost a league game going into the tie. But there was always a time when it was going to happen and Buffaloes chose that occasion to do it.

They took the lead two minutes into the match with former Dynamos midfielder Wonder Sithole beating Augustine Mbara and Thomas Magorimbo before placing the ball into the nets.

Clive Kawinga levelled matters when he converted a penalty before Washington Pakamisa thrust Dynamos into the lead when he tapped into the net from close range off a cross from Morris Kadzola.

However, former How Mine striker Stephen Sibanda restored parity with a beautiful header as Kawinga went on to miss a good chance after his second penalty was superbly saved by goalkeeper Chengetai Tandadzai. The home team then took advantage to score the insurance goal through a penalty by Sibanda.

Now the two teams face off again in one of the quarter -finals of the BancABC Super 8r Cup at Gibbo Stadium on Sunday with Dynamos buoyed by their weekend victory over How Mine while Buffaloes are coming from a 4-2 drubbing by Tripple B.

But Motor Action take to the field first against Monomotapa at the same venue on the same day.

But the $258 000 tournament in which the winners are guaranteed a cool $120 000 with the runners up set to pocket $50 000 kicks off at Mandava Stadium on Friday with high-flying Chicken Inn squaring off against Shabanie Mine.

On Saturday log leaders Highlanders have a date with FC Platinum in one of the quarter-finals of the tournament.

Fixtures: Friday: Chicken Inn v Shabanie Mine (Mandava). Saturday: Highlanders v FC Platinum (Mucheke), Sunday: (Dynamos v Buffaloes (Gibbo), Motor Action v Monomotapa (Gibbo).
