JOHANNESBURG — Botswana and Malawi have named their squads for the Cosafa Cup Zambia 2013 football tournament, both selecting home-based players for the event.

KickOff

None of Botswana’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) stars have been included in coach Stanley Tshosane’s squad for the regional showpiece, though he does have a number of players who have been competing in the 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.

Exciting young striker Tebogo Sembowa from Gaborone United is one, along with his club mate, the experienced Moemedi Moatlhaping, once on the books of Platinum Stars.

Forward Kekaetswe Moloi from Township Rollers has also got the nod in what is a squad that is a good blend of youth and experience. Botswana have been drawn in Group B at the Cosafa Cup Zambia 2013 along with Kenya, Lesotho and Swaziland.

They open their campaign against Swaziland on July 7 in Kitwe. Malawi have also gone local, though there will be some familiar names there for PSL fans.

Flames coach Eddingtone Ng’onamo has included the likes of veterans Fisher Kondowe and Davie Banda, both of who played for Black Leopards, together with an exciting mix of young rising stars in the Malawi game.

Prolific goalscorer Rodrick Gonani will be an exciting player to watch, while new faces include Silver Strikers captain Lucky Malata, midfielders Patrick Gunde (Civo United) and Junior Chimodzi (Silver Stars).

Malawi have been given a bye into the quarter-finals of the Cosafa Cup Zambia 2013, where they will face holders Zimbabwe.

The competition returns after an absence of three years, with South Africa coach Gordon Igesund suggesting he would take as strong a squad as possible.
