The much-anticipated event will see 24 beauties from the Matabeleland province competing for the coveted crown.

The contestants are Donna Ncube (23), Eunice Mkize (18), Clementina Ali (22), Andile Mpala (19), Buhlebake Ncube (19), Nonsikelelo Majuba (19), Tendai Sinyoro (20), Pamela Madaka (19), Grace Ncube (19), Sindiso Tirivanhu (20), Lovejoy Ndlovu (21), Thabile Mahlaba (18), Michelle Tembo (22), Zandile Moyo (19), Fungai Mawada (22), Lebohang Mmakola (22), Bokani Nleya (23), Mary Ushe (21), Melissa Chaka (22), Eldrina Mudenda (18), Chimumoyo Dube (20), Carol Moyo (18), Mabel Nyathi (22), Maxine Mutaki (20).

Talent Mpofu, one of the organisers, said they had themed the pageant “Vinter Wintage” as the event would blend winter and vintage wear, hence their theme. Entertainment will be provided by hip-hop group, Alchemy and the Divas. Babongile Sikhonjwa will be the master of ceremony at the event.

Outgoing Miss Bulawayo and reigning Miss Zimbabwe Bongani Dhlakama will grace the event to crown the new queen tonight.

The queen and her first princess will automatically be entered into the Miss Zimbabwe pageant to be held on July 27 in Harare. Thirty models drawn from the country’s 10 provinces will compete for the national crown.

Mpofu said the girls’ prizes will only be revealed tonight as there will be surprises.

Over the years, Bulawayo has been a strong force to reckon with in pageantry as it is home to a lot of successful models including Oslie Muringai Matsikenyeri (Miss Zimbabwe 2004), Lorraine Maphala (Miss Zimbabwe 2006), Samantha Tshuma (Miss Zimbabwe 2011) and the reigning queen, Bongani Dhlakama.
