VISITING Malawian President Joyce Banda says she will send a delegation to understudy the First Family’s highly-mechanised dairy project — Gushungo Holdings in Mazoe – after touring the farm yesterday.
Report by Wonai Masvingise.
Banda, who was hosted by President Robert Mugabe and his wife Grace, also toured Amai Mugabe Junior School and orphanage Amai Mugabe Children’s Foundation.
Speaking after the tour, Banda, who visited Boka Tobacco Auction Floors on Wednesday, said she had been impressed by the country’s indigenisation programme and the level of mechanisation at Mugabe’s dairy farm.
“What I saw here makes me feel very small. I’m very inspired by what Madam (Grace) Mugabe has done. I’m highly impressed,” Banda said.
“When I get back to Malawi I will send a delegation back to see the kind of barns the ordinary people are building to cure their tobacco. I will also send people to see what is happening at the dairy farm.”
Grace said the whole dairy system was computerised in line with world trends.
“This is a computerised system, there are cameras with sensors up there that can detect if a cow is sick or if it is on heat because we do artificial insemination here,” she said. “We are milking 500 cows and we get 25 litres per cow per day.”
