POLICE in Harare have launched a manhunt for a gang of four suspected armed robbers who allegedly pounced on a Kuwadzana foreign currency dealer, Edgar Chakadenga, and got away with R100 000 last week.

Report by Feluna Nleya

Acting Harare provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Tarirai Dube said the robbers, who were driving an unmarked Toyota Corolla vehicle, blocked Chakadenga’s car near a nightclub in Kuwadzana last Wednesday and smashed his window.

“He (Chakadenga) said that the robbers smashed the driver’s window and managed to unlock all the doors and searched the vehicle,” said Dube.

“In searching the vehicle they managed to open the boot of the car and found a plastic bag which is said to have had R100 000 in it and made away with the cash.”

The robbers later sped off with the loot after spraying their victim with an unknown substance on the face.

“We continue to appeal to members of the public to desist from keeping or moving around with large sums of money to avoid losing their cash. We also want to encourage people to move around with other people, especially at night,” Dube added.
