CHINHOYI — Police have arrested a local businessman for allegedly luring three 15-year-old schoolgirls to his garage on different occasions where he offered them gifts before raping them.

Own Correspondent Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara yesterday confirmed the arrest of Milton Munikwa who owns MMC Dharamanzi Garage situated in the city’s industrial sites.

Police said Munikwa (53), who was known to the complainants prior to the incidents, invited them to his garage between November 2012 and February 28 this year where he would ask them to enter his office and offer them some money.

The victims, who are all pupils at a local high school, would use a road passing through the accused’s on their way to school.

Accused would take advantage and ask his victims to accept his gifts, fondle their breasts before raping them, Mabgweazara said.

“The matter only came to light following an anonymous call from a concerned resident who alerted one of the girls’ mother who in turn interrogated her daughter. The daughter then spilled the beans before the matter was reported at Chinhoyi Central Police Station.”

The victims were referred to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital for medical checks.

The suspect is expected to appear in court today.

Police urged parents to encourage their daughters to desist from accepting gifts from either people known to them or strangers as it makes them vulnerable to sexual abuse.

Mabgweazara also appealed to victims to report rape cases early.
