METRO Studios have repossessed equipment worth $7 000 they sold to musician Taruvinga Manjokota, also known as Shuga Shuga, of the Mairosi fame, after he failed to pay his dues.

Report by Tawanda Marwizi

The musician purchased the instruments last year after signing a contract with the recording company that required him to pay $300 per month.

Metro Studios boss Emmanuel Sibindi yesterday confirmed to NewsDay that they had taken their musical instruments.

“When he signed a contract with us, he told us he needed a musical kit and we gave him, but he failed to abide by the agreement,” he said.

However, Shuga Shuga said he had not been given enough time to find money that they had agreed on for the monthly installments.

“I have not staged any meaningful shows since the beginning of the year, but only resumed just recently, but the company has not taken this factor into consideration,” Shuga Shuga said.

He said he had since decided to move to another recording company.

Shuga Shuga is a sungura musician who won Nama in 2008, but his fortunes started to fall following the death of his key band members in a car crush.

Last year, the musician was almost evicted from his lodgings in Budiriro, Harare, after he failed to pay his rentals.
