A GROUP of about 20 suspected soldiers believed to be based at Joko 2 Brigade in Chipinge yesterday assaulted the MDC-T’s aspiring parliamentary candidate for Chipinge Central, Livingstone Vulume, accusing him of being an opposition activist.

MDC-T spokesperson for Manicaland province Pishai Muchauraya said Vulume was attacked at Gaza township at around 3pm.
But police in Mutare said they had not yet received the report.
Muchauraya said Vulume was in the company of party colleague Chrispen Rambo when the suspected group of soldiers assaulted him with booted feet and dragged him along a gravel road for a distance of about 100 metres. Rambo was last Friday allegedly assaulted by the same group while pasting up “Vote Yes” campaign posters for the draft constitution referendum.
“Right now Vulume has gone to report the matter to the police so that he gets a letter to get treatment from the hospitals,” Muchauraya told NewsDay yesterday.
“He was attacked by a group of about 20 soldiers from a camp popularly known as Joko 2 Brigade in Chipinge. He has sustained bruises all over his body.”
