GWERU — A 20-year-old Silobela man was yesterday slapped with a six-year jail term for stabbing the brother of a man whom he suspected to have an adulterous affair with his wife.

Report by Stephen Chadenga

Gweru regional magistrate Morgan Nemadire sentenced Pride Mpofu to six years in jail, but suspended two years on condition of good behaviour.

A further two years were suspended on condition Mpofu pays the complainant Melusi Nyathi’s $990 medical bill before August.

The court heard that sometime in March 2010, Mpofu had a dispute with the complainant’s younger brother Mkhokheli Nyathi.

Mpofu accused Mkhokheli of having an adulterous relationship with his wife.

The matter was heard at the village head’s court, but Mpofu was not happy with the outcome and vowed to pursue the matter further.

On May 27 2010, the complainant was sitting on a shop veranda at one of the stores at Silobela business centre when Mpofu stabbed him from behind.

As a result, Nyathi sustained severe chest injuries and was rushed to Gweru General Hospital where he remained admitted for several months.
