Messengers of court operating illegally?

What this means is that everybody that had their property attached by the Deputy Sheriff over the past 10 years could legally contest the messenger of court actions.

All the Deputy Sheriffs’ operations could be challenged in the courts.

NewsDay yesterday saw correspondence by acting Chief Registrar Walter Chikwanha where he demanded the Deputy Sheriff’s Office to furnish him with a current copy of their contract.

“A perusal of our records appears to indicate that the contract appointing you as Deputy Sheriff has expired. In our records we have the contract appointing you from April 1 2000 to April 31 2003 . . . copy of which is attached,” Chikwanha wrote in a letter dated March 4 2013.

“We do not appear to have any other contract extending your tenure beyond this date. If such a contract exists, it probably might have escaped our attention for one reason or another.”

Chikwanha urged all deputy sheriffs operating in the country to urgently furnish his office with a copy of their current contracts, if they had any.

Chikwanha, however, declined to discuss the matter when contacted for comment and instead referred all questions to the JSC Office. “My office has no comment over that matter. You may contact JSC secretary if you want to hear anything over that issue,” Chikwanha said.

JSC deputy secretary Rex Shana professed ignorance over the matter and referred NewsDay to the chief registrar.

“I am not aware of that matter. I really do not know anything about it. Why don’t you find out from the Registrar’s Office?” Shana said. The registrar could not be reached for comment at the time of going to print last night.
