Registration closed on Friday last week with only 15 clubs having managed to raise the required registration fee of $2 700. CSL secretary Stanley Chapeta told NewsDay Sport that some teams which had expressed interest in joining the league had failed to register owing to financial constraints.

He added that the league had reserved one slot for New Zimsteel, grappling with management challenges.

The CSL had envisaged having an eighteen-team league in the forthcoming season, but it appears they will have 16 sides only.

“I can confirm that registration of clubs for the new season has closed. We will not be accepting any late registration save for one exceptional case of New Zimsteel for whom we have reserved a slot. “They communicated their challenge and said they would come and register. “Our desire was to have eighteen teams in the league, but some clubs failed to raise the required affiliation fees,” he added. “As for the other teams, they might be admitted at the discretion of the executive committee, provided they pay the full affiliation fees.”

Chapeta revealed that fixtures for the new season would be released this week.

Some of the clubs that had expressed interest in joining the league, but failed to raise the $3 200 affiliation fees pegged for league new comers, are Mabvokocho of Gweru, Kwekwe Pirates and NM Academy from Mvuma.

Rutendo Stars, Gweru Pirates, Mateta FC and Border Strikers are some of the teams that were expelled from the league for failing to raise affiliation fees since the inception of the CSL.
