Jere’s adviser Godfrey Mathanda held a meeting recently with a Motor Action representative to discuss a proposal to have the Harare businessman join the Mighty Bulls as one of the directors. He is currently doing a diligence exercise on the whole deal before a decision is made.

However, it is said Jere is finding it difficult to make a decision. The Harare businessman had decided to take a one- year sabbatical from football but effort is being made to convince him to seriously consider the proposal from the Mighty Bulls.

The biggest challenge for the former Caps United director however, is that his heart is still green and is not sure how the football fraternity would react should he join the Mighty Bulls.

It is said he fears he would be viewed as someone who wanted to destroy Caps United if he joined Motor Action.

“It’s a difficult decision for him to make right now because if he joins Motor Action people would say he wanted to destroy Caps United. Jere had decided to take a one-year sabbatical from football,” said Mathanda.

” He feels there are no more honest football people and if they are there, they are very few. Eric Rosen is one of them. At Dynamos you also find few honest people. If he gets support from the football fraternity to join Motor Action it will be good for Zimbabwean football but if he doesn’t come back, football will be poorer without him,” said Mathanda.

Jere, whose passion for the game is unquestionable, quit Caps United towards the end of last season following differences with club president Twine Phiri over the shareholding structure of the team. Initially, the Harare businessman held a 20% stake in CAPS United (Pvt) Ltd, with his shareholding set to be increased to around 45% last year. He, however, eventually quit after his shareholding in the club remained stuck at 20%.

He had poured more than US$1,4 million into the club and secured a clubhouse for the Green Machine since joining them in 2004. At the time he quit in November last year, Jere is said to have set aside $240 000 for the purchase of players in preparation for the 2013 soccer season.

Some of the players he had earmarked include Highlanders attacking midfielder Masimba Mambare and former Motor Action defender Morris Kadzola who is now in the books of Dynamos.

Motor Action have been just like any other club, struggling to fund operations in this harsh economic environment and have decided to seek a partner for the forthcoming season after making a loss of over $200 000 last season.

The ambitious Harare side, who lifted the league crown in 2010- their best achievement since their formation in 2000, believe they can repeat the same feat if they secure a partner.
