The Urban Warriors are currently seated one place above the relegation cut-off point and just two points more than the teams in the dreaded zone.

Billiat, who was part of the Warriors squad that beat Botswana 2-1 in a friendly match on Wednesday, scoring the first goal, was linked with a move to the Brazilians in a deal valued at a staggering R10 million.

So desperate was the mega-rich club for the hugely talented winger that they had reportedly offered Ajax Cape Town two of their players Surprise Moriri and Clayton Daniels on top of the cash to sweeten the deal.

However, Billiat said, “I think we were struggling for form as a team and I don’t think it was wiser for me to move and leave the team in their current situation. I need to help them and if there is anything I think I will make a decision at the end of the season. It was a decision by me, the club and the team that wanted me,” said Billiat.

The 22-year-old player who has had trials in Europe before, but with no success, said the dream is still alive.

He said:“My first preference is to go to Europe but you never know in football. Maybe it will be good for me to go to one of the big clubs in South Africa and see what happens next.”

Ajax Cape Town last week appointed Ian Gorowa as assistant coach, taking over from Wilfred Mugeyi. Gorowa’s inclusion at Ajax brings to three Zimbabweans at the club who also have in their books midfielder Tafadzwa Rusike.

Billiat is looking for a new start and an improved performance under the former Black Rhinos and Dynamos striker.

“He is a good coach and it’s a good thing that he came. We are still adapting to life under him. I’m sure everybody has his own type of coaching and he has ideas to improve the game and put our team on another level. I have confidence that he will help us to get better.

“I have never been satisfied with my performance; I always want to do better and be on top,” said Billiat.
