THE State has withdrawn perjury and contempt of court charges against a Harare businessman, Tarik Adam who allegedly demolished his buildings after attempts to evict tenants failed.

SENIOR COURT REPORTER

Adam, the manager of A Adam and Company, walked out of the Harare Magistrates’ Courts a free man last week after the complainant in the matter, Ritenote Printers (Copy World), opted for an out-of-court settlement.

Ritenote Printers had pressed for criminal charges against the businessman after he had allegedly demolished his property where the former used to conduct business from. Ritenote Printers represented by the law firm Hamunakwadi, Nyandoro & Nyambuya had claimed Adam allegedly demolished number 147 Mbuya Nehanda Street after losing a court case in which he wanted the tenants evicted.

But Adam, in his statement to the police, had argued he never at any stage defied the court order as alleged, but did not receive the court papers that had instructions to stop him from renovating his buildings.

He also denied assertions that he was the director of A Adams and Company arguing he was merely managing a family business.
