NewsDay reporter arrested

NEWSDAY Manicaland reporter Obey Manayiti was yesterday detained at Mutare Central Police Station where he had gone to make a report following an incident in which he was allegedly accosted in the central business district and threatened with death by suspended Zanu PF provincial youth chairman Tawanda Mukodza.

According to Manayiti, Mukodza spotted him in the city and pursued him making the death threats. The reporter said he jumped into a taxi and fled before going to report the matter at the police station.

Upon arrival he said he was immediately arrested and charged with criminal insult after Mukodza had made an earlier report at the same station claiming the reporter had insulted him.

Efforts to obtain comment from the police were fruitless up to the time of going to print last night. Manayiti was still in police custody at the time.

Who will stand up for these thugs when the police are reigned in and forced to act professionally? When they have no one to turn to they will run like the jackal and piss themselves like they did in the war.

So will the police officers who act like general thugs, they will be hounded out and no punishment can be too harsh for these heathens who at heart are ignorant cowards. They will vanish into pbscurity, only after they have attempted to flex their pathetic muscles and feel the wrath of the person wrongly accused.

The streets will become like Pamplona with the running of the bulls, and we all know what happens to the bull once it is in the ring

The young journalist is being harassed for exposing that Zanu pf youth chairman together with Madiro who enriched themselves with money from Diamond companies.
We all know how these guys will try to intimidate journalists when their dirty cupboards are being opened.

    • John weku Mabvuku February 19, 2013 at 3:30 pm #

There we go again, its now the Madiro saga, so who is arresting who? Madiro was suspended by ZANU-PF not the Min of Home Affairs. Are yu saying Madiro has a policeforce? Inga kwaMutare kunoshamisa! Trevor writes like an authority of police brutality, matter of factly….We have had enough of media ochestrated violence and political polarity. If your car stops because of a flat tyre dont call the media to blame a ZANU-PF -OR- MDC pothole!! Zvaidyisa 2008/9, ikozvino forget. Yu heard the national leaders last night? We can do things on our own, just leave us alone. Stuff you theories somewhere…

  8. John weku Mabvuku February 19, 2013 at 3:54 pm #

You are right brother/sister, we are tired of a media that twists everything to suit the polarity between ZANU PF and MDC,Read the follwing excerpts,
“…. that a Chiredzi man was killed by an MDC-ZANU PF farmer’s crocodile!
A school-boy was mauled by dogs belonging a ZANU-PF- OR- MDC Gwabalanda canditate….
The maid of of the incumbent Goromonzi West ZANU-PF legislator had a miscarriage….
In Umguza, the irrigation scheme’s great potential is hampered by maraulding baboons who reside in a nearby mountain which is in a farm owned by a ZANU-PF- OR- MDC local councillor,…. Tsvangirai cracks the whip on Generals… and in anticipation of a football match between Dembare and Bosso the headline in most of our publications was” WAR, BLOOD AND THUNDER AT RUFARO TOMMORROW”.

…..Eiish, madhodha, that Witherrel guy poisoned our media atmosphere in the name of Press freedom.

Iwe john wekumabvuku you behave as if you know everything. don’t mix up things i tell you. You should know that zanu pple a liers and they are free to tell any story and the police accept it. Why is it that the journalist was held in the cells yet we know thieves and real criminals are being released by the same police. This is not fair. The police are responding to issues that not necessary. Zanu pple thing all zimbos belong to them, but time shall come when vana Mukodza shall be accountable for these acts. Do you know why pple are not bothered by the likes of Mukodza who is down and out in the streets of Sakubva, it because pple have better things to attend to and these thugs will be a thing of the past.

ZANU-PF is failing to learn from previous mistakes. They try by all means to harass journalists but that won’t help them anymore. whether they do arrest or put us into prison we will never shun the good journalism. Expose them more Journo! You are such a veteran.
