GWERU — A member of the Zimbabwe National Army Christopher Zuva and his son appeared at the Gweru magistrates’ Court yesterday facing charges of assaulting police officers and obstructing the course of justice.

The court heard that on January 3, police Assistant Inspector Gerald Muzengeza accompanied three junior police officers to Zuva’s house in Mkoba 5 where they wanted to search for a robbery suspect.
When the four arrived, Zuva’s son Tofara (23) allegedly stormed out of the house and told the police officers that the suspect, Tinashe Zuva, was not home, but in Harare.
The soldier then came out and demanded that the police officers to identify themselves before he repeated his son’s claims that the suspect was not around.
However, the police officers insisted on searching the house, but Zuva denied them entry and locked up the door demanding a search warrant.
A brawl allegedly broke out after Zuva and his son resisted arrest and they assaulted the police officers, tearing their shirts in the process.
Police later summoned reinforcements and arrested the pair.
