BULAWAYO mayor Thaba Moyo has challenged Local Government minister Ignatius Chombo to publicise a report that contains his findings over a recent probe he conducted against the local authority. Report by Khulani Nkabinde Staff Reporter Moyo was responding to claims made by Chombo at a Zanu PF rally held at Stanley Square in Makokoba suburb on Sunday where he told Zanu PF party supporters that Bulawayo councillors were corrupt.

“He made investigations on us last year. He should bring the report on corruption that he was investigating. We have not seen it,” Moyo said yesterday.

“There is no corruption at this council. Maybe he is talking about a different council. If he is talking about us, then he should bring forward evidence.”

In his address, Chombo also claimed the city council had declared war on him and vowed to fight back.

He said the MDC-T controlled council had defied his directive to co-opt special interest councillors.

Last week, council reportedly ignored a directive to appoint Fidelis Fengu as a special interest councillor for the disabled, resulting in Chombo giving town clerk Middleton Nyoni an ultimatum to swear in Fengu without fail or risk being fired.

However, on the day the swearing-in ceremony was supposed to take place, a Bulawayo resident with disability, Jack Matshazi, obtained a High Court order blocking the function.

“We are not fighting minister Chombo. We were stopped by the court. The judgment will determine the way forward,” Moyo said.

“We are not the High Court.

“We will follow what the court’s judgment says. I do not know where the war the minister is referring to comes in.”
