A club official said they were not sure of the players’ whereabouts.

Head coach Nation Dube told NewsDay Sport yesterday that they had started gearing up for the season, although some of the players were yet to pitch up for training.

“We started training for the season on Tuesday. We have been doing road running and a little practice on the ball. However, some players are still missing from camp and we do not know where they are,” he said.

“Aaron Katebe, Francisco Zvikumbawire, Petros Mhari, Winston Mhango, Ocean Mpofu, Tongai Mamhina, Thonisani Sibelo and Kudakwashe Chipere are not training with us. Some of these players still have running contracts, but they are yet to report for duty. We do not know where some of these players are.”

However, Katebe and Mhari are part of the FC Platinum squad that was released by the Zvishavane side on Wednesday while Dynamos is chasing the signature of Zvikumbawire. Sibelo is training with Chicken Inn. Dube said preparations for the season will continue despite the absence of the players.

“Other players have reported for training with the exception of Rodwell Chinyengetere who is undergoing physiotherapy. I also have two juniors whom I intend to register,” he said.

Hwange finished fourth in the 2011 campaign, but could not continue with their good form, resulting in a dismal show in the Premiership season last year. Team fought relegation

“WE survived relegation last year so we want to perform well this year.

“We want the boys to be confident because we need to finish the league in a respectable position. We want Hwange to be a competitive side,” he said.
