LOCAL artistes are expected to announce their “star-studded” squad tomorrow afternoon ahead of the highly-anticipated Music Celebrities versus Soccer Legends football match set for Rufaro Stadium on Saturday.

Music promoter Patson “Chipaz” Chimbodza, the brains behind the annual tournament, said four games would be played on the day.

In addition to the main menu, Chipaz said there would be other matches involving electronic media personnel against their print media counterparts.

Chipaz said there were two new entries in this year’s edition with captains of the industries set to clash with the Parliamentarians.

But if there is one match that is likely to generate strong interest, it should be the match between female artistes against female journalists.

Chipaz, who will line up in the Music Celebrities team, yesterday said preparations for the match were at an advanced stage.

“Everything is in order and we are looking forward to the big day. We have included more teams this year as we try to make the event more exciting,” said Chipaz.

He added: “All the teams have confirmed participation and we expect some very competitive matches. I am not sure about the other teams, but the artistes are working hard to win the match against the soccer legends.

“We have been training very hard in preparation for the match. We are naming our final squad tomorrow (today). Competition is very high so those who will make the final list are genuine stars. It will be a star-studded team.”

The artistes have been training at the match venue while the soccer legends have said they are “ready” for the match.

Some of the artistes that have confirmed their participation on Saturday, according to Chipaz, are Oliver Mtukudzi (captain), Alick Macheso, Sulumani Chimbetu, Freddy Manjalima aka Kapfupi, Nicholas Zacharia, Jah Prayzah and Charles Charamba.

The soccer legends, who won the contest last year, are expected to line up former stars like Rahman Gumbo, Kalisto Pasuwa, Agent Sawu, Brenna Msiska and Joey Antipas.
