Busani Ncube (20) was convicted on his own plea of guilty to criminal defamation when he appeared before Lupane resident magistrate Takudzwa Gwazemba.
On Monday, Gwazemba sentenced him to an effective three months in jail.
In sentencing him, the magistrate indicated that Ncube did “a very dangerous thing to people’s marriages, which could destroy the unions”, thus he deserved to be jailed.
The court heard that on September 10 last year, Ncube was summoned to local headman Venis Matshazi’s traditional court to be questioned by the elders after he squandered the money he obtained from the sale of a cow that belonged to another villager.
Ncube told the traditional court that he gave $100 to the complainant, a 31-year-old married woman, whose name cannot be mentioned to protect her identity, after she allegedly seduced him to sleep with her and demanded payment.
He also told the elders that he gave the woman $50 so that she would propose love to a local girl on his behalf.
