One of the unpaid seven teachers, who requested to remain anonymous, said the development “was disheartening to the teachers who have been working hard for nothing”.

“We all have families to take care of, but we are struggling to take care of them as we have to meet other day-to-day living requirements that need money,” he said.

The teacher said they had even tried to consult the Zdeco head office in Harare concerning the matter, but to no avail. “We talked to the co-director identified as Zilipha, to no avail, because he kept on offering us inconclusive answers such as that enrollment is low,” he said.

“We know that is a lie. We are appealing to Dr Sikhanyiso Ndlovu to address this issue. He is popular in politics, but he seems to be neglecting his employees.”

Ndlovu yesterday told NewsDay he was not aware that the teachers had not been paid.

“I have not received any complaints at the headquarters,” he said.

“If there is something like that, the principal and the administrator are the ones who are supposed to approach me at the Zedco headquarters and submit a detailed report on the matter.”

Ndlovu said the teachers had to understand that the current economic situation in the country was bad, but that did not stop him from being sympathetic.

“Although the situation is bad, I sometimes have to fork out money from my own personal funds to pay the teachers,” he said.

Ndlovu said he was going to address the salary issue with the teachers by the end of this week “to put everything in order”.
