Zifa Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Division Two sides, FC Kombani Africa formerly Plumtree FC, NRZ Tigers, Highlanders Academy and Plumtree Soccer Academy will fight for honours at Plumtree High School on December 30.

The draw for the tournament will be held at Kombani Lodge in Plumtree on December 15 before the competition kicks off on December 30.

“Last year it was quite big, but we have streamlined the tournament to four teams for organisational purposes and the time factor. Some of the teams that we invited last year failed to travel. We are going to have only four teams this year and the draw for the semi-finals will be held at the lodge on December 15. That is when we are going to unveil the sponsorship package,” Faith Dube, co-ordinator of the tournament, said.

Teams are going to play in the semi-finals first, the third-place playoff and then the final.

Last year, the tournament was won by NRZ Tigers, who beat Plumtree Soccer Academy 1-0 and walked away $2 000 richer.

Plumtree Academy took home $1 000, while Highlanders picked up $600 for coming third.

Plumtree FC pocketed $400.

Four social football teams, Highlanders Legends and Amavevane from Bulawayo and Plumtree Social Soccer Club will also be taking part in a separate competition with a club from Botswana.

“It’s a big event for Plumtree, these guys are our patrons at the lodge so we are saying it’s the end of the year, so let us celebrate,” Dube said.

Last year, the proprietor of Kombani Lodge, Charles Moyo, poured in $30 000 for the tournament which also feature, women’s football teams Inline Academy and New Orleans.

The inaugural tournament in 2011, won by Plumtree Academy, was bankrolled to the tune of R200 000.
