The league is going on a break after mid-week fixtures today and will only resume after the Africa Cup of Nations finals next February.

Katsande turns out for Kaizer Chiefs.  Bidvest Wits stars Tinashe Nengomasha and Thomas Sweswe, Lincoln Zvasiya and Ajax Cape Town star Tafadzwa Rusike are all expected to be part of the proceedings.

The tournament is sponsored to the tune of over $4 500. It will see 16 teams from around Mutare and other districts from Manicaland fighting it out.

Winners will walk away with $1 500, while runners-up will get half the prize and medals. All the teams that reach the last four will be rewarded with jerseys.

One of the organisers, Tatenda Matiringe, said Katsande — born and bred in the sprawling dusty suburb of Sakubva — came up with the idea of giving back to the community, before confirming the presence of the stars at the tournament.

“The Willard Katsande-sponsored tournament is on this weekend and we are expecting 16 teams around Mutare and other districts from the province to take part, l believe morale is high from all the junior clubs,” he said.
