Fungisai, who will be together with Nyaradzo Group of Companies and the Friends of the Environment (FOE), will provide lunch, buy groceries, including sanitary wear and soap. She will also perform for over 200 female inmates at the Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison.

“FOE will provide us with 200 trees at the prison as part of the event,” Fungisai said.

The artiste added that the day would be very important for her as she would also launch her ninth album titled Wenyasha Ndewenyasha that same evening at Garwe restaurant, in Eastlea, Harare.

“I will be auctioning the first CDs and the proceeds from the event will all go to fund the trust (Vulnerable Women Development Trust),” she said.

The album — which has a socio-religious thrust — shows Fungisai’s concern with tracks like Aids, Kwedu KuZimbabwe themed on domestic tourism, Ndinotendeuka Ndiregererewo, a song based on teenage pregnancy which features the fast-rising talented musician Blessing Shumba, among other interesting tracks.

Jesu Ndimambo, a song she did with  pastor David Maguramiti, will also be part of the new package.

The event is set to be one of the most lavish album launches of 2012 as the host of the event will be sungura giant Alick Macheso. Other successful  musicians who will grace the event are Joyce Simeti as well as Charles and Olivia Charamba.

“We will also have our nation’s leaders present at the launch and these include Information and Publicity minister Webster Shamu, Commissioner of Prisons Paradzai Zimondi and Home Affairs co-minister Theresa Makone, among other high-profile guests,” Fungisai said.

Gospel diva passionate about girl child
“AS a woman, I just feel that the prisoners also deserve to be cared for. I am very passionate about the girl child in particular,” said Fungisai.

She said because of her passion for women, she had also formed the Vulnerable Women Development Trust which was an outreach for women and girls, focusing on character building, especially in schools through activities like camps, cook outs and discussions, among others.

Fungisai added that the day would be very important for her as she would also launch her ninth album titled Wenyasha Ndewenyasha that same evening at Garwe restaurant.
