DYNAMOS midfielder Denver Mukamba believes he can make a huge impact the same way Moses Chunga did in his hey days if he stays at the club, but refuses to be compared to the Dynamos legend.

The 20-year-old Mukamba has been the heartbeat of the all-conquering Dynamos squad this season.

The Dynamos playmaker emerged the club’s top goal-scorer with 14 goals this term, including four in the Mbada Diamonds Cup tournament in which he also finished as the top goal-scorer.

His goals and several assists helped Dynamos to complete a league and cup double in a memorable campaign.

Mukamba — a favourite to win the Castle Lager Footballer of the Year Award for which he is fighting with Highlanders’ Masimba Mambare — was on Friday night named the Dynamos Player of the Year at the club’s end of year awards.

He walked away $5 000 richer and is in line to pocket more money should he win the Castle Lager Footballer of the Year Award.

“It is my wish to scale the same heights achieved by Chunga,” Mukamba said.

“I wasn’t that lucky to see him playing, but as we grew up, we were always reminded about his exploits on the pitch. He was a great player and it will be unfair for people to compare me with him now. He is in his own class, but I know if I continue to improve my game, I can reach that level,” he added.

The lanky midfielder also revealed he was targeting a move to an English Premiership club.

He said although he had gone for trials with Bidvest Wits University, he feels his talents can take him to Europe.

“I trained with Bidvest Wits for three days, but I had to come on Friday for the awards ceremony.

“I felt it was important for me not to miss the ceremony because this is a very important award for me. Bidvest Wits still wanted me for some more days, but I could not miss the awards ceremony. I feel it is not right to force things. I had a good season and I am happy to win the award.

“I hope to continue improving my game and my target is to move to Europe in the future unless something comes up. So for now I am concentrating on Dynamos,” he said.

Mukamba flew to South Africa on last Sunday just a day after helping the Glamour Boys overcome Monomotapa 2-0 to complete a League and Cup double.
