Today will see the teams play using the Pro50 format where they play a full 50 overs inning, while tomorrow they will use the Twenty20 (T20) one where teams will be restricted to a maximum of 20 over inning.

Mountaineers are coming from a clash against Matabeleland Tuskers last weekend at Mutare Sports Club where they lost their Pro50 Championship match on Saturday to Tuskers by nine runs.

On Sunday, a five-star performance by Shingi Masakadza led Mountaineers to a 30-run win in the T20 match when Masakadza managed to get his best in domestic T20s after managing figures of 6/16.

Mountaineers were defending a total of 136 runs, their first wicket came in the second over when Tendai Chatara dismissed Moeen Ali for 1 run. In the following over Gavin Ewing was caught from a ball from Masakadza and Tuskers were 11 for 2.

Craig Ervine attempted to stabilise things for Tuskers getting 41 runs, but lacked support from his teammates. Wickets tumbled as Tuskers slipped to 104 for 7 as Masakadza bowled the 19th over and took four wickets to end the innings. He struck with the second, third, fifth and sixth ball to dismiss Tuskers for 105.

Mountaineers had batted poorly after they won the toss. Mark Pettini was the only batsman to pass 30 and he made only 31. They were struggling at 110 for 7 in the 17th over and Masakadza’s 16 lifted them towards 135 for 9. Tuskers’ bowlers shared the wickets around, with Keegan Meth, Glen Querl, Njabulo Ncube and Ali taking two each.

The Mashonaland Eagles are coming from a less active weekend as their Southern Rocks Pro50 Championship game did not produce any results, as rain disrupted play in their first match on Saturday after 21 overs when Eagles were at 103/2. On Sunday the T20 match was abandoned due to heavy rains.
